DotA Quiz/Introduction - BY Saevio
Rated 9.5/10
1. Why do you play DotA?> The only multiplayer game I have ever truly fallen in love with! I love the unique nature, teamplay, the skill elements, pretty much everything about the game
2. How often do you play it?> I would average 10-15 games a week during study periods. On holiday I can manage that per day!
3. Evaluate current DotA gameplay from 1 - 10 (Where 1 is total game-fail and 10 pure win). Clarify your grade in few sentences.> 8. While the game is very good, there are of course bugs associated with the age and lack of flexibility in the Warcraft 3 engine - it is certainly limiting what changes can be made to the game. The biggest thing that needs fixing though is the platform - a lack of ranked play and stability makes games on clients like Garena a rather hit-and-miss experience.
4. Do you think that nice graphics and awesome appearance are esential elements of games like DotA? Why?> Not in the slightest. It would be nice to get a graphical update, but if it means that it makes it even the slightest bit harder to determine what exactly is happening on the screen at all times, it's a negative change. HoN is a great example of graphical clutter.
5. How do you respond to Icefrog's colaboration with Valve?> Ahahaha I seem to remember being rather excited - quoting myself would probably result in a censored post.
6. Do you think that Dota 2 will be released in this year?> I certainly hope so, and Icefrog seems to think it will. But if it isn't, I can wait. Grudgingly.
7. How do you respond to Blizzards commentary regarding the DotA 2?> I think they are being rather amicable about the whole deal, given how fiercely companies generally attempt to defend anything that could even be remotely considered their intellectual property whenever money becomes involved. Blizzard are not renowned for being the most charitable of organisations. I also think it is nice that they have released updates to WC3 almost entirely to cater to DotA. Maintaining a 10yr old game for a fan made mod that they have little financial investment in apart from the widely pirated software is rather impressive.
8. Will you mind paying for the Dota 2? Why?> Not in the slightest. Making the game premium will weed out quite a few of the (very) casual gamers and little kids that tend to ruin online play. Winning a free copy would be very much appreciated though! (hint hint :p)
9. Are you prepared for possible DotA's 2 high system req-s?> I imagine my new laptop will run it. Failing that, I will build a new desktop!
10. Do you think that popularity of DotA 1 will dramatically decrease when DotA 2 comes? Why?> Yes and no. I think the competitive scene will see a decrease in intensity, as the better players flock to a game which will (hopefully) have larger potential payouts. The inevitable success of DotA2 will I think trigger somewhat of a resurgence in popularity and hence casual play of the original due to its free nature.
11. What do you think are the main problems of the DotA 1 which you just don't want to see in it's legatee?> The Warcraft 3 engine is simply outdated, meaning that there's very little opportunity for further development or enhancement of the game. Over that, stable servers, matchmaking and a reduction in the...shall we say accessibility of the game might make for a slightly more enjoyable community and gaming experience
12. How do you comment current news regarding the DotA 2?> Looking good so far
13. Anything else you want to add?> Can't wait
