Dota 2 cosmetic items

We have found an article on Valvenews.net showing something really interesting. Before proceeding, take a look at next picture:

You can see that Dota 2 might have possibility of tweaking the look of your Hero. Although this still is not available in current state of closed beta. Also, this rises next question > will dota 2 be free? As many of you know, various free games (LoL) have option of buying additional skins. So, does this mean that there are chances of Dota 2 being also free to play?

I personally doubt that.

Spoiler:

Maybe you will earn "credits" by playing games and helping community in various ways. That's more likely to be the case with Valve. What do you think?

That's horrible Sad Skins should not be customisable because in a game as balanced and competitive as DotA, even hero visual changes can affect game-play (some skins could make a hero blend in to the background better, it might make them more obvious to the opponents than intended, could clash with some spell visual etc). Valve should not tread down this path or they might kill Dota 2. . .
On the other hand, there could be an option to games that allows the customized skins to be used so that you know what game you are joining. This would allow for pubs to have the skins for teh lulz but serious matches (clan, competitive,HL) can have them toggled off, thus eliminating the potential imba factor.

I think that's cool, but unnecessary...
This type of improvement does not bring much benefit to the game. just more bugs haha

What are you talking about ? I am playing HoN too , you can change the whole skin there , and I never had a problem. Neither do the other players. You probably have not tried something similar out , but you should and you will see there is no "imba factor" , lol.
And if Valve doesn't go down this path , the game will not be f2p. I love that you can make visual changes and not only the whole skin but small parts , you make an individual hero.

Those 2 Models might be fake , but when some1 leaked the game folder they found a hat.

Well realistically in this day and age the F2P with micro-transaction model is the way to go, every genre of gaming is slowly starting to do it. Even games as big as WoW are slowly starting to head that way and have talked about Free to Play models. I personally think that the cosmetic only cash shop is a EXCELLENT idea regardless of F2P or P2P, it is one of the few things that LoL did right. As long as you aren't paying for the necessities like heroes and just paying to chrome out your character i am all for it.

If this would be real, than it would affect too much the gameplay, the cosmetic items would make heroes hardly to recognize and would have a pretty big impact on the game.Say no to cosmetic!!

agree with u

imo : i like & support Skin / cosmetic system but yes cosmetic should not affect game play..
cosmetic can used to show : non-f2p , reward for achievment , experience - level

about the news , i'm not sure coz lot of heroes not fit with cosmetic thing...imagine what cosmetic/skin can nevermore or spectre had ??

example

Leviathan : replace his big hook with classic Anchor
axe : wear horn helmet
Spectre : use square blade instead circle
sven : replace his sword with wc3 model sword
mirana : replace tiger with riding wolf

if the cosmetic thing only like i said above...i think it fine

That is exactly how it is going to be, the fact is we are speaking about a valve product here and as well know TF2 is all about hats hats and more hats! They make a excellent profit off just the cosmetic items alone and you can put money on it that if those 2 pictures are real then there will be PLENTY of alt skins/costumes for characters.

P.S. you guys need to stop thinking so close minded, cosmetics won't give any player an advantage. The only thing it will do is make those without the means to buy those items look less flashy.

^
if the cosmetic just replace some part (replace default armor, weapon, add extra little part) i think its okay

OT :
i'm f2p at TF2 but i like the game then i pay couple $ just to buy "something called HAT which didn't give any advantage when playing"
even sometime when play as sniper, i can notice enemy head easier if they wearing "stupid hat"

That is exactly what it will be, things like Hair, Outfits, Couriers and maybe announcers like HoN. Nothing that will increase the players skills will just make them enjoy looking at that fat ass pudge more Very Happy
